Find Your Home Value Knowledge Base
Finding The Value Of Your Home,Getting The Info The Real Estate Agents Use To Advertise Your Home? I would like to find the website that offers the info real estate agents use to market your property. The info sheets that have all the information on your property that they would give out to prospective buyers.I have been told this is public information and is available free of charge, but every website I visit want you to pay a fee for this info. I have checked out www.zillow.com but that only lists the estimated value of your home and dosent give you all the other info. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If your home value rises? Should you have to give your profit to the government? I mean, if we're gonna collectively take care of people whose home values have sunk and they're 'under water', wouldn't it only be fair for homeowners whose houses double or triple in value to have those profits taken away? If values are up, that means there's high demand, and lower income families will have big problems finding an affordable home. Should Obama give them some free money to offset the cost? Personally, I don't care for any of Obama's meddlings so far. But while watching a nightline story about homeowners in trouble last night, it occurred to me that none of those people would want to share their profits if we were in an up market. Yet they want their neighbors to cover their losses. Seems kinda screwy if you ask me.
How do I find out the value of my home & what additions/remodeling items would add more value? We are considering selling our home in the next year and have been watching a lot of HGtv and DIY. All those shows seem to say the same thing...update your home to increase value. I'd like to have someone come to our home to let us know what we would list our house for today and what additions, changes, remodeled areas would add value to our home so that if we do sell it, we'd be able to make money on those changes. And, if we don't sell, we'd be able to enjoy those changes for years to come. So, who would we talk to about this? A real estate agent? An appraiser? I know that an appraiser would charge a fee, but what would a real estate agent expect? Would it be a fee or a signed contract to sell the house if we do decide to sell?
What's the best resource to find the true value of your used car? There are so many resources out there, but what's the most reliable to know what your used car is REALLY worth? Kelly Blue Book? NADA? Edmunds? Galves? Parkers? Our cars are usually well under typical mileage and in better than used condition. (We work from home, have no kids, and we only put about 6K-7K a year on our cars, and never use the back seat.) People who get in our car freak out and think we just bought it. We're in the South too (Atlanta) so there's no wear and tear from snow and salt. E.g., our Honda 2003 CRV w/ 36000 on it, really clean... supposed trade-in is around $14,150, dealer retail $16,600. Should we expect $14,150 or even more? Are we simply better off selling it on our own, or can we get a good deal for it as a trade-in because of its condition?
How do I find the market value of a home? Can someone give me a valid link of some sort to find the market value of a house? That isn't bogus? I have tried to enter in the information on this house I'm trying to buy to find the true market value, and the websites on google just lead you to give them your phone number, email etc. to get business.
getting a selling price on my home? I was watching GMA this morning as they talked about finding out the value of your home as well as others. The name of the web site was zello or something that sounds like that. I may have it spelt wrong.
How would you feel with a bussiness in front of your home.? I have been looking for a home in NC. Well, we found our dream home, it is ideal in everyway as far as home and land are concerned, Now the first problem is on each side of house is trailor parks, I think I could handle that, there is lots of yard and space between. Then we find out there is a plot of land in front of the home and the owner intends to put his bussiness on.I am not sure of the size or type of bussiness it is. Would these things be in issue when it comes to your dream home, and value, how woudl it affect all of these areas?
Obama wants you to refinance your home? "Put dollars in your pockets" he says, "and refinance your home." But the fact is, the home has lost $50,000 to $100,000 in value, and without the economy we had and the jobs we had, the value of the home is far, far less than the old purchase price. Most of us 'stingy' Americans would be working three and four jobs to keep our heads above water with a seriously overpriced home. Maybe it would be better to get out and find something in a better place and circumstance. It would seem, in fact, that declaring bankruptcy is a very, very good idea. Will you refinance?
Can anyone point me to where to find a govt mortgage help program? I have a high interest second, and arm on my 1st that will recast soon. Please don't respond with your brokerage information.. not looking for that. There is supposedly a new Federal program where they will drop the value of your home to market values and allow you to refi in a lower rate and home value if you stay vs foreclosing? anyone have any direction here? Thanks!
How do you calculate the value of your rental property? We want to rent a house we've had for sale and aren't sure how much to ask for rent. I'd heard it's 10% of the home's value. Can anyone verify that? Also, I cannot find a site that actually lists the houses for rent in our area. They only list apartments. We do have a realtor, also. Must we go through her? I already know the fair market value for selling it and its appraised value. I want to know how to calculate what I can ask reasonably for rent.
What is worse, higher taxes, or loss of value in stock investments and home value? People's IRA, 401(k), and stock investments are down over 20 percent, and home values are down about same amount, if you can even find a buyer today. Why would capitalists and those who own the million dollar properties or small businesses, fear maybe 5-10% higher taxes (paid only on profits, or income)? Isn't a few points more in taxes worth it to decrease the national debt, raise the value of the American dollar, increase spending by the middle class, and again raise the values of stocks you own, and the other properties you own?? Like, what does paying lower taxes give you, what advantage, IF everything else fails, including your investments, and customers can no longer shop at your business or buy your home due to being unemployed, or bankrupted?
Do people in your home leave the lights on? I feel like I'm always turning off lights. Every time I walk from one part of the house to another, I find lights on with nobody in the rooms. Sometimes, the light adds no value as the sun shines in. What's the deal? Do you have this problem? I'd be all for an invention: Put a coin in at the switch to turn on the light for X minutes. At the end of month, I'll collect all the coins to help pay the electric bill. Another invention: Attach a pedal device to power the TV. If you don't pedal, you loose power and the TV goes off. We'd all stay fit then!
Increasing the value of my home? NEXT FALL I'M WANTING TOO SELL MY HOME. OF COURSE I'D LIKE TO MAKE THE LARGEST PROFIT THATS POSSIBLE. AWHILE BACK I HAD FOUND A WEB SITE THAT LISTED HOME IMPROVEMENTS AND HOW MUCH THEY WILL INCREASE YOUR PROPERTY. I NOW CAN NOT FIND THIS WEB SITE. EXAMPLE OF IMPROVEMENT, REPLACING CARPET WITH HARDWOOD FLOORS, CHANGING SHOP INTO ANOTHER BEDROOM, ADDING AN ALL SEASONS ROOM, THINGS OF THIS NATURE. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IMPROVEMENTS SHOULD BE DONE TO INCREASE AND WHAT IMPROVEMENTS ARE NOT WORTH MESSING WITH?
How to finance home improvements without equity loans? I want payments based on loan terms GREATER THAN 15yrs!? I am so irritated with the catch-22 of home improvement. You can't get a loan without having equity (i just bought 4 months ago), and in this market you sure aren't going to get equity without boosting the value of your home by making improvements, which of course requires money.I was prequalified for 3 times the mortgage I got, but this place needs a LOT of work. I was naive in thinking that since i prequalified for so much more that I could easily find home improvement funds. To an extent, that's true-- I can get personal loans with decent interest, but they're on a 5-7 year payoff. I'd prefer to roll it all into a 30 yr mortgage so I'm not too burdened with the payment. I also don't like the 203 loans because they require you to use licensed contractors for everything. A lot of it I could do myself. I'm guessing I could do it all with about $20-30K if I do what i can myself. If I go the contractor route it's probably about 50K. I don't want to put this all on credit cards. Are there any options other than 5 yr loans and credit cards, or 203 loans to get the money to do this stuff and pay it off in 15 years or more??? I'm about to give up. Thanks
What is the value of money invested in your own home; isn't the rent saved equivalent to a dividend? The web is full of articles on buy-vs-rent or "pay down the mortgage" vs. invest, but most authors seem very confused by the large number of variables. And almost no one talks about the benefits of not paying rent. If I bought a $100K property with cash and if living there saved me $12K in rent per year, wouldn't that be equivalent to a 12% return on investment (modified of course by all the other variables like interest deductions I'd get if I financed; property tax and maintenance costs; the fact that rent is paid post income tax, etc.) If I'm in the middle of paying off my home, does my equity pay me back in the same way? or is the saved-rent benefit irrelevant till the day my payments end? Does anyone know where to find a complete list of all of the variables involved (and maybe a calculator?) Does anyone know where I can find something written on this subject by a qualified economist/mathematician?
Air Filter (MERV) For My Home? What is the standard MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value for a home air filter? MERV 13 are in hospitals and 11's are typically found in corporate office buildings; so what level do you find in your home. I am trying to buy new air filters and don't want to overspend.
It's time to find out what's going on with me.This is long, but I value your opinions.? I'm 26 years old. Thoughts about death: I'm sitting on the bus, I have paranoid thoughts like what if the bus crashes, what if there's a bomb and how it's going to hurt me burning in flames and hearing everyone screaming, or i'll be laying down at night and think "what if I stop breathing...what if something plugs my airhole and i can't breathe" and just yesterday while I was waiting for the bus this guy was asking me about the bus and I observed that he kept eyballing my purse. He asked me (had an accent) "so bus go to gas station, and comes here?" i say, "yes." He says "Ok. so bus goes to gas station first, yeah?" i say "yes." and he kept repeating the same thing over and over and over again. Anywho, in the bus i kept worrying that he is waiting for me to get off the bus then follow me and mug me or stab me! I'm in a live-in domestic partner relationship of a year and a half that I don't want to be in anymore and I can't just leave...it'll take time (financial reasons). Her dad, her sister and 3 teen nephews live there too. I try to stay at work as late as I can just so I won't have to be home. They all get on my nerves sometimes. I can't stand my significant other to want to hold me or kiss me, i dont want sex at ALL, it bothers me when she somes to me w/ her problems (because i have enough issues of my own...and i know that sounds horrible). I hate feeling that I feel obligated to make sure everything's clean before my 'spouse' comes home, reporting to her when i'm going somewhere, etc....In other words, I miss the single life. But she refuses to let me go. We fight a lot and have spoken many times and she swears she will change and so do I, blah blah blah..i lost hope. I do love her...very much...in fact I'll do anthing for her but why do I feel this way? I want to be with her, yet I despise her for the things she's put me through. I don't know. I get like this a LOT. I'm depressed. My mind races a thousand miles per hour. Sometimes I'm at work and I want to burst out in tears for no reason. But I hold in so much that my throat and stomach hurt. I try to cry, but I can't cry a lot like I want to. I find myself daydreaming to be alone. I don't want friends, I don't want anybody or anything. I feel like if I lived alone, all my distress will go away. I just want to be alone, and tranquil with my dog. I've had these phases since a teenager. My health: my menstrual cycle is extremely irregular. I get it like 3 times a year and I get crazy mood swings, my hormones are left and right. I used to do crystal meth, coke, ecstacy about 3 years ago and stopped. I used to drink a LOT but toned down for the past 2 years so I drink maybe 1-2 times a week. I am overweight. I'm suposed to weigh 115 but I weight 170. I know that I should see a therapist which is my next step, but what do you make of all this? Thank you so much for reading this. I am indenial that something is wrong with me. Is there?
Care to find the edit, anyone? "be sure to accurately estimate your home value before you shop for a loan." These mistakes keep jumping out at me while reading these silly columns. Enjoy the points!
Property apraisal and equity? What is the average cost to get your property apraised and is there any other way to find the value of your home? And im looking to get knew kithchen work done to my grandmothers house, like mostly cabnetry around the sink, on a scale 1 to 10 by how much does this raise the equity in the home and does that help the apraisal rate any? Are there any books specificly on the subject of apraisal.
Home value? Is there a place online that I can go to and put in my home's square footage, year it was built, amount of land we have, etc and find out a rough estimate of how much it's worth? I have tried finding a site but all the sites I find just ask for your street address but they all tell me it's an invalid address. I've lived here all my life and receive my mail here so I think I know it's valid lol.
What would you do if you had been renting a home for a very long time? and taken great care of the home, put money into the home and brought up the value, then found out it was going to be sold soon, but were told not to worry it would be a while, three weeks later you were told it would be going on the market and would be showed while you were living in it and that it showed better with all of your personal belongings in it so please stay until it is sold. Wow! Is it me or is this lady really selfish and also someone who I should not take her words, because she has not kept her promises to me? What would you do, find another place now or stick around and pay her mortgage for her. Her other tenants have left their homes, not taken care of them, lots of damage, and bailed on paying the rent. But I am still here, having a hard time trusting anything she says. What would you do? This is for ilovekeylimepie, " I am not looking for a medal. " It is called family, and neighbors we have lived around for the last several years. I understand your bad attitude and lack of moral conduct, you are a heartless person. I feel pity for people like you. I see this is a business deal, but however, and it is clear to me it is up to me now to handle this as business, and do her no favors in staying. It has been more than a place to stay, you can't take the neighbors with you, and you can't really mend two sad hearts that grew up here and are still little. With three pets to take also. In this day and age their are still some of us that put family values above making a buck here and there. And also being caring towards others as I clearly have for her. I simply stated this question, because at this point I feel like a sucker and was looking for sound advice on trusting someones word who three times has failed me. So hope you grow a conscience soon.

How can I find out what homes in my area have sold for? I am filing for a tax reassessment in California as property values have declined. In order to have the application reviewed, I need to provide two comparable sales to support my opinion of value. How would I find out what homes in my area have sold for? There are very few homes that are actually selling. Thank you for your help. Thank you Landlord! I need to adjust my settings and then I will send it to you.
If this govt fails and we descend into Anarchy. Who will you pledge allegiance to when I show up at your home? There seems to be a push to help make the current administration fail. That is fine. When it does there will be chaos and people will take to the streets. Anarchy will reign! At that time paper money will be worth exactly that, worth less than the price of paper and ink. I will be able to create a bill with pencil and paper worth the very same. It will buy you nothing, especially security. There will be riots and fires and violence. Lots of violence. It will be prison rules without the guards. Those who have nothing will have the least to lose and life will mean nothing to those who decide to go and TAKE what they want. Words will mean nothing. Actions especially violent ones will rule. At this time what remains of the constitution will dissolve. All that you said that you stood for will come to stare you right in the face. Did you believe in the right to keep and bear arms? I did and will use them to defend myself, my family and others I believe to have similar values. Do you believe in doing whats right, even when no one is looking or keeping score? I do that is why I will continue to do so when there is madness in the streets. I will band together with others to gain strength and combat similar groups but with murder and robbery as their motive. We will go from street to street and from house to house. Taking the law into our own hands just as others will do. We will defend life even if it means taking some in the process. We will defend truth but will have to resort to guerrilla warfare to do so. Suddenly the word militia will not be a scary word to you but you will pray for it to save you. The power grid will go down, your alarm will not work and no one will come even if it did. You may have a golf club or a baseball bat that you claim to protect your home with but you will be finally forced to face the truth. Even if you have a gun you will learn the hard way that the fantasy land you live in is gone. It will be hard for you to defend a house that is burnt to the ground. There will come a time when we will come for your food and water, not just my group but other groups that will also want your wife and children as well as all of your possessions. Do not fool yourself, you will have but one choice. Who will you pledge allegiance to? There will be no flag or national guard. They were part of the govt that failed. We have taken their guns and their tanks. Who will you pledge allegiance to? Who will you give your food and water to? We wont be able to trust just anyone so you would have to pledge your allegiance to me, I would have to be able to depend on you in times of trouble. If you choose me I will share with you. I will give you a job. If you are weak you will carry what used to be your food and water and prepare it for us. If you are strong you will be given a gun and a task. If you do not choose my militia you will be left for other groups. Like packs of dogs they will roam. They will not have the same values as I do. They will rape, rob and kill. They will respect almost nothing. They will respect only force. Force is what I will use to keep us free and alive. At least I am civil enough to give you time to think it over before it happens but remember this is your fault. You could not find common ground and now your ground belongs to me.... If I truly want it. I need to be able to depend on YOU in times of trouble. I will need your pledge that I can depend on you when others try to divide us!! I will need you to pledge that you will do what is right even when no one is looking. I will need you to pledge that you will stick with me even if we have differences of opinion sometimes. I will need you to pledge to cover my back against others attacking us even if they out number us. The choice is yours my friend (or enemy) Who will you pledge allegiance to when I show up at your home? per message reply. No, skin color does not matter to me. It never has. It will have to not matter to you. Your political affiliation will have to take a backseat to your allegiance. Keep if you want but we must keep our common goal at the forefront. What does matter to me is your loyalty and your valor. Your honesty and your integrity. That is what I will ask you to TRUTHFULLY pledge. I am updating the question as i get information. Please feel free to update/edit your answers. Some people are clearly not reading the question but rushing to "blurt out a clever response". Please take the time to actually read the question, reflect and answer honestly.
Hardwood flooring or carpet? I just found hardwood flooring under my carpet. My carpet needs to be replaced. Should I go with carpet or hardwood floors. It seems that a few planks are buckled or maybe even cracked as there are some weak spots in my floor. Is this hard or expensive to replace? Also what does carpet vs hardwood do to the value of your home? Is refinishing hard if I find worn out places?
Home loan vs. appraised value? I have found a home that I am interested in applying for, but have a few questions to ask. 1. If we offer lets say 99,000 for the house and when appraised it's value is only 80,000 what happens then, is it something you can put in your bid, or do you have to pay out of pocket the difference. 2. How do you put in your offer so the seller is responsible for closing costs up to a certain am mount?
When do you think, peoples idea of their homes value will adjust to reality? I am researching the housing market and find people trying to sell homes for 20 - 30% over what the market pays. Some of them are mortgaged to the gills and will end up in bankrupcy, but almost everybody is 9 month behind the down wards curve for sqft price actually paid in specific areas. My question is just your opinion, how long it takes for people to realize they can't get their mortgage back.
How do I overcome lowball bank appraisals to refinance my home? Can I contest an appraisal? Other options? I purchased my 1950's California home in 2005 for $450k and subsequently sunk $175k into substantial improvements, making the total investment about $625k. I currently owe $340k on this home and have no other debt. I was attempting to refinance at a new, low rate, and get some cash out for my business. Yesterday I received a crushing appraisal from one of the bank's selected appraisers. The guy came back with $312k--less than 50% of my investment. I personally took this appraiser through my home, pointing out all the improvements that had been made and where all the money was spent. I even gave him a breakdown of everything on paper that he took with him. I offered to provide him with before pictures but he wasn't interested. He admitted in his report that he could not find any recent comparable sales in the area and had to go quite a distance out, into neighborhoods that I would not consider equal. He seems to have based his appraisal purely on the last known sale price of homes of similar age and size, and completely disregarded the $175k in improvements that I'd made to my home. Obviously, judging a home's value by a recent sale price is flawed. We don't know what the circumstances and conditions of that sale were. Foreclosure, short sale? Judging a home's value by its age and dimensions is equally flawed as we don't know whether that home has been updated in the last 50 years, whether it's completely rotting inside or what. His report also states that homes in the area have fallen 15-30% since 2005. Now, I would expect a super conservative appraisal to value my home at 70% of my purchase price and improvements at 80% of cost, putting the number closer to $455k. That would have put me at 25/75 LTV, and at least given me a chance to refinance. Is it worth seeking other financial institutions, and pay another $400 for each additional appraisal? Do you expect my experience will be the same with all appraisers at this time? I've read that banks are encouraging appraisers to return values that represent an amount where at it would be impossible for a bank to lose money on the property in a foreclosure... roughly 60% of actual value. Is it worth attempting to find independent appraisers and contest the bank's appraisal? Is there anything I can do to force a bank appraiser to value my improvements, or just value my home higher in general? Do I have any other options? I'd really like to refinance while rates are amazing, and I'd love to get cash out or as part of a HELOC for my business. Rhetorical question/rant: why would people want to avoid foreclosure when their homes are being appraised at 50% of value? How many years does it take to get a foreclosure off your record? How many years will it take you to earn that $300k that your home just lost in value?
$8000 or 10% of the value of home? Hey my internet people I need your help ? Me and my fiancee have found the home we want. The home is $5000 cash and it's perfect for us. We want to buy it and say good-bye to the landlord's. The only thing that is weird, is we are first time home buyer's. We make less than $75,000 of income. Do we qualify for the full $8000 or 10% of the purchase on home, which is $5000. I was reading some places that say you get $7500, you get 10% on the purchase of home, or you get $8000 flat out and don't move for the next 3 year's. The money will help fix up a few thing's we need immediately. So what do you guy's think............?
Where in the US can you find a place that makes you feel like home? Thinking about moving down south in the future. Need your input on where would be a good affordable place to live in. I am thinking about TN? I just want to find a different place where you can see that: there are family values, there is a sense of respect for the elders, its a healther pace in living, a place that you won't regret moving to. I know that not every place is perfect, and I appreciate as many honest answers that you can give me. Thank you.
What are your thoughts on the other war Vets are forced fo fight back home? The following is a CNN story: Young veterans struggle to find jobs "The nation's vets leave one war to fight another one at home," Iraq war veteran Josh Hopper wrote to me in an e-mail. The war at home he was referring to was not the battle to rehabilitate his body from a severe wound, or the fight to restore his mind from psychological trauma, but his war to find work. Hopper and many other young veterans like him are risking their lives overseas, but once they leave the military, they are discovering that employers back home don't always value their skills. In 2005, the unemployment rate for veterans age 20-to-24 was almost double the rate for non-veterans in the same age group, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. We wanted to know why. One former Marine told me some employers saw the years he spent serving his country as "taking a few years off." The Department of Veterans Affairs suspects some employers can't see how military experience can translate to the working world. A veteran's issues expert even claims that some employers are scared to hire veterans. In our report tonight, we'll look into what the military is doing to help veterans gets jobs and why some veterans say that for many employers -- "Support Our Troops" -- doesn't seem to include hiring veterans so they can support themselves. I am looking for some feed back from anyone working as a Juvenile Caseworker. Do you enjoy your work? I work in a public school system and I think that this is a job field that I would excel at, but I am interested in hearing from some people that have worked this field and have some insight into how much a person brings home, and do you get any satisfation from doing your job? I dont expcet things to be "peachy" all the time, but what I mean from job satisfation is do you find personal value in it? Do you feel like you make a difference in one life?
Republicans....how do you feel about the banks taking advantage of red states ? Link to what i'm talking about: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Mortgage-l… We all know that the financial crisis didn't just affect Liberals, and didn't just affect Conservatives... we were all affected. People lost their homes and investments everywhere.... Some people aren't aware that even after foreclosure, giving it back to the bank, or short selling your home... you could still be on the hook for thousands of dollars of deficiency on your homes value. Many people are finding themselves in the circumstance described in the article..... bought a home when economy was good, economy tanks, home prices dive, lost jobs, foreclosure.... So can the bank hit you up directly for these enormous sums of money, even though the short sale or forelosure couldn't be done without the banks approval ? The answer is.... DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE. See ...the red state voters typically side with the banks, the corporate entities, and they elect politicians who are corporate minded people, good ol' supply side boys... they don't usually side with the consumer. This is the reason that Repulican led states, are mostly the states where the banks can pursue you, and they can wait up to five years...potentially increasing the loss to you on purpose.., before they file a judgement against you. So how do you feel about supporting politicians who side with the banks that are essentially picking on red states ? Try to follow this one.. This basically means that the bank losses from the banks in blue states, where they cannot pursue that negative equity, is going to be passed on, through distributed declines in home values, to red states where they can legally pursue it. Now...dont' get me wrong... I believe if you take out a loan, you should pay that loan off. You agreed to pay, you should pay. However... I also feel that the responsiblity for this "investment" should not just be on the consumer in the event that the value of that investment plummets. The bank made the loan with the intention of making money, but that profit intention is no more guaranteed than the equitability of that investement made jointly with the consumer. Additionally, there should not be a legal instrument, in which the lender can legally delay filing a judgement, for the purpose of increasing their claim. It would appear that practice is yet another practice, where the bank is taking advantage of the consumer, by placing all of the potential future losses of that property investement on consumer. What's worse is that they are doing these things using money that isn't even technically theirs. It's OURS. They're using Peter, to kill Paul. This is something everyone should be aware of, whether you are conservative or liberal, and especially if you are considering allowing your home to go into foreclosure. Check the laws in your state and get a lawyer before you do anything !! --------------------------------- "Once they have a judgment, they can pursue you anywhere," said Richard Zaretsky, a board-certified real estate attorney in West Palm Beach, Fla. "They can ask for financial records, have your wages garnished and, if you fail to respond, a judge can put you in jail." In the case of foreclosure, lenders can pursue deficiencies in more than 30 states, including Florida, New York and Texas, according to the U.S. Foreclosure Network, an organization of mortgage law firms. Some states, such as California, are "non-recourse" and don't allow deficiency judgments. But, even there, if the if the original loan was refinanced, some or all of it may be subject to claims. James... the lenders made bad loans on of their own free will...because they thought home prices would go up forever...so even if the consumer defaulted, they would have positive equity in the home itself allowing them to recoup the loan and still make a profit.... That is the simple truth to this whole thing man... Did people take those loans willingly ? of course.... and the banks made them willingly..because they were greedy. It boils down to this.... Should the bank be completely insulated from shady investments, and all of the reponsibility placed on the individual ? ..EVEN AFTER FORCLOSURE !??? Who advocates for the consumer in this capitalist equation ?
How do you find out how much your house is worth after a remodel , for insurance and equity purposes.? I am almost finished remodeling my home and want to know how to find out the value, it was in need of major repair when I bought it and I have replaced alot of main features including all Flooring, Complete Kitchen, Windows, Landscapeing , paint, trim, doors, outlet and swicth cover, all light fixtures ect. You get the picture, pretty much everything. The house also had a horrid dog and cat smell , they were allowed to piss and poop everywhere and anywhere, so hence the floor replacement, and even went so far in some areas to replace the drywall. the house is totally unreconizable and was way under valued when it was priced by my mortgage company , they told me that they were surprised at the number given the area, and I was like you have to see and smell the place.....LOL But now what do I do to find out how much it is worth with all the work I have put into it? I want to cover it properly with my Insurance company and I would like to do more improvements to the house.

Having our home appraised next week. What do appraisers look for when determining your home's value? What is your home's value based on? Is it simply the size/neighborhood/structural condition? Or do appraisers look for aesthetic value as well? Basically, I'm wanting to know if doing little things to the outward appearance of our home will help increase the value? (Things like adding nice, potted flowers to the front steps, fresh flowers in the house, etc. I think it's what is called "staging" your home for potential buyers) We're not selling our home- the appraisal is for re-financing our home.
how much do these upgrades increase your home value? We are debating whether or not to install a hard wood floor in our dining room as well as replacing a bow window in the same room. THe bow window is original (30+ years) and the seals in the window panes are clearly broken. It will cost around 3 to 4K for replacing the window and the floor will cost around 1800. Do you really get your moneys worth when you go to sell with these upgrades?
What is the difference between a real-estate appraisal on your home's value and the tax appraisal value? Currently, I only know the tax appraisal 109K, from the home I am planning to buy. (Home built in 2006, around 1500 sq) How much of a difference can I expect from the real estate appraisal? Lower or Higher? Are homes usually valued around the same as the tax appraisal? What kind of problems can I face if the appraiser values the home too low or high? The appraisal would be for the purchase of a home, right now the asking price is 96K( it's a foreclosure).

Does a sauna add value to your home? My boyfriend just bought a house that has a small sauna in the basement. He won't ever use the sauna, so he wants to take it out and make that space into a closet for his work clothes. I told him that the sauna may add value to his home and to dismantle it might be a bad idea. Am I right? Thank you!
Can having a neighbor with an ugly home lessen the value of your home? There is a neighbor down the street from me within visible view from the front of my house that moved in a few years ago and made the house really ugly. For example, they have a broken trampoline and an ugly fence right by the street and they park their cars in their yard all the time. The rest of the homes in the neighborhood are very nice and well kept. Do you think this one house could decrease the value of my house?
What small repairs will add value to your home? My house was built in 1957, it is old, but sturdy. Each year at tax time, I put money back into my house to raise the value. I don't have much money, so I am looking for small repairs to increase value. I want to replace the interior doors so they look like those in newer homes. Will this increase value and what other small jobs will increase value?

How much value has your home lost? I never bought one and everyone laughed at me for liviing in an apartment and living within my means...I know a home is great if you are going to live in it forever, but where I have no desire to stay where I am at, I think I made the right move...yes, everything you pay in rent is gone , but so is your property taxes, home insurance, and upkeep expense....A home is only worth what someone will pay, and right now, that aint much....

How can I find out my homes value? I live in a small city and everytime I go to a website to get my value, they can never find the location of my home. Is there anyway I can find my homes value online without any cost or obligation?
Can adding a second storey fire escape add value to your home? I'm in a small suburban home and my window overlooks a ground-level deck. I've frequently thought how nice it would be to be able to get out of the house (even to the backyard) from my room. I rent the room, but I'm friends with the guy who owns the house. His attitude has been that as long as I'm willing to do the work, he'll take a bit off my rent if I want to improve things.
Where can I find the exact value of my home? I am looking to search the internet to confirm how much my home is worth now. The site Upmystreet.com does not give the value of my home, only the value of homes nearby recently sold. Help please SM
How does one find the true value of there home? Public records show my house 100sgft smaller than it is. And they don't show a two car attached garage. Let alone the fact that it sits on 1/2 acer instead of a postage stamp lot. And another three car garage out back w/half bath. Triple wide concrete driveway. Oh and a 10X20 hand biult on a slab out back that had no damage from Ivan.
